Venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers has invested in a first round of financing for ngmoco, a publisher of games for Apple Inc’s (AAPL.O) iPhone.

Ngmoco will use the funding to collaborate with game makers on creating and acquiring games for the media-playing iPhone, the company said on Thursday.

Early stage fund Maple Investments also participated in the financing round, whose terms were not disclosed. Kleiner Perkins partner Bing Gordon, a former chief creative officer for game publisher Electronic Arts (ERTS.O), will join the ngmoco board.

What do you think the difference between guys and girls is?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I’m not talking about the phyical but the sociological beings. There thought process, emotions, etc…

  1. Guys tend to jump to conclusions and make hasty decisions. Girls tend to think about things more carefully and are cautious.
    2. Guys aren’t usually as emotional as girls are. Girls have deeper feelings.
    3. Guys are not as worried about being accepted as girls are.
    4. Guys are more rash and more apt to be violent than girls are.

Of course, these are only general things. But both genders can have guy/girl tendencies.

——–

guy are more rational then girls are. Trust me any man on the planet knows that if you fight with a woman they will bring up stuff from the past even if it isn’t relevant to the situation that is happening to win a fight. and as for emotions and feelings what do they do for you personally? has emotion ever saved your job? Girls tend to think that the way they feel makes them better. But feelings dont win wars or build houses or stop anything from happening do they. And feeling with out rationality is stupidity because how do you put your emotions. in check when every month girls have hormonal unbalances

What to do with a pork roast??

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

i have a pretty good sized pork roast i would like to cook this weekend for dinner. normally, i would put it in the crockpot all day and make pork bbq out of it. however, i’m getting tired of that. i’ve also tried cooking one with veggies and it seemed like the veggies turned out greasy.

anyone have any GOOD recipes for a pork roast? there will be a smaller child here next weekend, so it can’t be anything spicy and i’d prefer nothing too complicated!

roasted. either in the crock pot (just don’t ad bbq sauce) or in the over 350 for an hour. my mom always had this sunday after church. she put carrots and potatoes in the pot. brown the meat, sir it. place in pot, add some water or vegi stock, onion soup mix, then the vegis.

Cheap, diabetic friendly meals?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I’m diabetic, and I’m really struggling to make it by, so the only foods I am generally able to get are foods that are mostly carbs and other things that just aren’t good for diabetes. With money being such an issue, is it possible to make meals that can feed three people, but also be diabetic friendly

i know how you feel. i am going through the same thing. what i try to do is shop the poor discount stores and stock up on veggies. frozen and canned. i make alot of chicken dishes. chicken with veggies or grilled chicken with marinades. tuna and fish are always good. turkey is really cheap and you can use it just like hamburger meat. i make my main dish some kind of protein, a veggie or two, then a not so good carb like potatoes, pasta, rice, etc to level it out. you can also pair up meals with salads and soups. grilled cheese and tomato soup? turkey burgers? shake and bake chicken?

a lady on here had me make this and its going to sound wierd, but try it. 1 cup ketchup, i can of diet coke, and 4 chicken breasts. mix the diet coke and ketchup and use it as a marinade in a skillet. add your chicken and cook on the stove top for like 45 minutes. its AWESOME…

………….

As a diabetic, carbs are your worst enemy!! You should really try to limit things like bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes. (I know its hard—-these types of foods are everybody’s favorites.) The problem with carbs is that they are broken down in the body to become sugar. (The basic carb units are monosaccharides, i.e. fructose, glucose, and galactose.) You don’t have to make special meals and you don’t have to completely avoid carbs. Instead of having 2 servings of spaghetti and a plate of salad, have 2 servings of salad (light on the dressing) and just 1 serving of spaghetti.
You may want to ask your doctor about consulting a Nutritionist. We have one on staff at the medical office where I work, and she has given a lot of good suggestions to our diabetic patients……..Including me!

………

I am also in the same situation you are in and I find it difficult to find something that my whole family can eat as well as me so I don’t have to make a special meal. I try to eat a protein at each meal and when I don’t have anything I will eat a tablespoon on peanut butter on a slice of whole wheat bread or whatever bread I have. Also cheese is good. I make a grilled cheese sandwich often. My advice, ask your dietitian for ideas and like others here have said look on the pc for different ideas. It can be done but it isn’t easy. I struggle with that everyday.

………….

it’s pretty simple, yet I know that’s sometimes easier said than done. LOW CARB… no matter what you do, eat low carb and you’ll be fine. Eat meat, eat green veggies… avoid the bread. If you eat bread, I suggest low carb bread. it costs the same and your family will be none the wiser. No potato’s, no rice, no breaded foods, and easy on the fruit. Never drink fruit juice. Diet drinks only. Avoid milk in quantity.

So for a family meal, ground beef, green beans, a salad, and they can have rolls or garlic bread, but NOT YOU. Or chicken, peas and brown rice (but I’d skip the rice).

There’s 3 people in my house too, and I simply don’t eat some of the things they do, but I eat extra veggies and bigger salads.

………………..

Try turkey kielbasi, chicken breast, frozen vegetables, fried rice

Is it true that in certain parts of the world the seasons are deffirent ???

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

i live in an area where its summer .. my friend lives in another area he says that its winter where he lives .. is that true

yes, very much. Summer in the US is at the same time as winter in Australia./

—-

Due to the tilt of the Earth, when the northern hemisphere is enjoying summer, the southern hemisphere is in winter. June, July and August are the coldest months in Australia for example.

Much of the tropical world only have 2 seasons, wet and dry. Because they are close to the equator, the seasonal changes in temperature are minor, but monsoonal rains dominate the seasons. For example, Darwin in northern Australia has a wet season from November to March, and receives about 90% of the yearly rain and lots of cyclones(aka hurricanes in the Atlantic) during this period.

Live in Australia, and visited Darwin during the last wet season

Veterinary Medicine?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

I think I’d like to do a career in veterinary medicine, but was wondering, is it better to do your undergraduate in biomedical sciences or biology?

If it is anything like medical school.. your major doesn’t even really matter. As long as you have taken all the courses they require, you can major in anything that interests you. Medical schools actually recommend this as a fail-safe. If you for some reason cannot become (in your case) a veterinarian.. you have your degree to fall back on. Plus, as an added bonus, you tend to do better in classes that interest you… picking a major that interests you should help your GPA out, if only for this reason.

—-

It depends entirely on which university you’re trying to get into. To get into my course all I had to do was basic biology, chemistry and physics in 1st year uni and then transfer. You need to look at the pre-requisits for any course you’re interested in, and ask advisers from that university.

Like med schools, vet schools often look for breadth in their applicants. So a broader major in biology might be better. Make sure to take calculus if you haven’t already taken it in high school; it is a brownie point.

Chemical and molecular effect - Sugar?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Hey :)

I am hoping that someone could help me out a bit, with my question.

Thanks!

The effect sugar have on water. Chemical and molecular!

I know that the sugar crystals interact with water via hydrogen bonds, and that water molecules the bonds between sugar particles until the crystals are fully dissolved.

But what more?

Hey Laura :)

Insted of doing a copy-paste - like the guy above me. I will provide you with a link.

It deals with your question, and it’s solved perfectly.

Sugar crystals interact with water via hydrogen bonds- weak bonds that take place primarily between positively-charged hydrogen atoms and negatively-charged oxygen atoms. The two substances interact freely when combined. Water molecules surround individual molecules of sugar, breaking the bonds between sugar particles until the crystals are either fully dissolved, or until there are no ‘free’ water molecules left. When this occurs, the sugar crystals do not fully dissolve. Hydrogen bonds are so weak that they are constantly breaking and reforming, causing individual molecules to exchange positions. Because energy is required to break and form bonds, and heat is a form of energy, the warmer the water, the more readily the sugar dissolves.

How big is a tonne of CO2 pollution?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

I’m trying to picture how big a cloud of pollution 1 tonne of CO2 really makes. I mean, one tonne of carbon all squashed together makes for a cube a little over 1 metre each side, more or less, but if you took the average CO2 spread as it might, are we talking about a cloud that would cover a football pitch, a large University campus, a state or a country?

How about if you laid one tonne of CO2 flat in a 1 atom thick puddle? What would that cover?

I guess you’d have to factor in if that tonne of CO2 is stuck somewhere where you get smog conditions or not, but
I was just reading this article on CNN, http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapc… and it got me thinking about how to convince the world that we just have to make it interesting to the greedy side of mankind to scuttle as much pollution as possible and not just shop it around. How can it possibly make sense to invent a quota for a country that can’t produce the mess, just to buy it?

you could get a rough estimate of it as an ideal gas

V =nRT/P

just convert tonnes to moles for the n term

it is close to 600 cubic meters at atmospheric pressure and room temperature - this assumes it does not diffuse and remains together as pure CO2.

——–

Tonne as spelled is a metric term.
US standard would be 2200 lbs. at 16ounces per lbs.
CO2 is ca compound: 1 atom Carbon
2 atoms of oxygen
now consult the Periodic Table of elements, for the exact weight of each of the two elements. add the weight of the carbon atom to the weight of two oxygen atoms then after converting 2200lbs to like weight equivalents divide by the combined weight of CO2 this figure will indicate how many Co2 molecules are require to make a tonne of CO2.
So if you haven’t guessed by now a tonne is a tonne all of it measured at sea level at one atmospheric lb per square inch.

Renters Insurance Liability?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

If my neighbor has a fire that does some damage to my apt./belongings, will the neighbor’s renters insurance cover my damages or will my own renters insurance cover my damages?

The first thing you would do is to turn the claim in to your own renters insurance company. If the fire was caused by the negligence of your neighbor, your company will subrogate (try to collect) from her insurance company. If she was not negligent and it was accidental (something shorted out or something like that) then your insurance will pay for your property and hers will pay for hers. In order for you to collect under your neighbors liability under her policy, she has to be negligent in some manner….leaving a candle burning, pan on stove etc.

please help there is no key does it mean it is on the way and be here today or tommorow??

The “out for delivery” section is there one I’m guessing you are most interested in.
This means it has arrived in your local (Royal Mail) Delivery Office, i.e: Stoke, from where your area’s post is delivered.
Your item should be delivered the next day (the 22nd) by a driver (not your usual postman). This is not guaranteed and does depend on levels of staffing amongst other things. Allow a few days, before telephoning your local delivery office.
Do not phone customer services, this is an 0870 number and you’ll be speaking to someone who more than likely can’t help you. Try to find the telephone number of your delivery office (it should have the same area dialling code as your home address, and may be in the phone book, or you could try directory enquiries), and you should be able to speak to a manager there who will be able to help you.
