Securing Your Invention

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

If you have invented something that can be helpful in our daily lives and you wish to mass-produce it, there are quite a few legal proceedings you need to undergo if you want your precious invention to stay yours. Inventing something like the George Foreman Grill or a quesadilla maker seems like it would be an easy thing to do, but there is only one grill that sells as well as the George Foreman and there is only one quesadilla maker on the market. So if you find that one thing that people would love to buy, getting in touch with some intellectual property attorneys is the first thing you should do before telling anyone about your new invention.

You might think that your friends and family would never try to steal your ideas, but once a really good idea gets out, it could haunt you in many different ways. Your friends could tell their friends and they could get it patented and legally signed over to them incredibly fast if you haven’t done it yet. After someone decides to steal your idea, there’s not much you can do about it. That is why patent lawyers get paid the big bucks. They protect what is yours before it can be poached from you and in this country, people will jump at an idea that hasn’t been legally patented.

No Space

Monday, July 12th, 2010

My office has completely run out of space and we are looking in to what to do to find more storage. We have enough desk space but we seem to be surrounded in paperwork, so much so that I am sure we may find people buried under it when we start to move it! We have been looking in to office trailers to try to get the space that we need. I have been trying to decide whether it will be better to buy something or whether container leasing might be a better option for us. In the long term, the leasing cost will be dearer, but in the short term I am not sure if we can afford to invest in trailer storage. We do have the funds, but I am concerned about what the future might bring and like to have some extra money hanging around just in case the company gets in to difficulties. We need to be able to pay the wages and rent and buy stock and I would rather make sure that I could do that rather than spend that money. I think I will spend a few more weeks looking through the finances and deciding on the decision in terms of now and the future. Being a small company it could be crucial to the future how we spend money now.
